Cabinet approved the submission of the draft Gas Bill, 2025 to Parliament for further processing.

The Bill seeks to repeal the Gas Act of 2001 and introduce a modernised legislative framework that reflects recent technological developments in gas transportation and storage.

The Department processed 1,164 mining-related applications. of these, 185 were granted, 222 rejected, and 75 refused. Prospecting Rights made up the majority of applications, with 597 received, followed by Mining Permits (545) and Mining Rights (22). This reflects ongoing sector application activity and regulatory oversight.

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources is pleased to announce the publication in the Government Gazette of the promulgation of the Regulated Biofuels Price Regulations, marking a significant milestone in the regulation of the biofuels sector. The Regulated Biofuels Price is in terms of the Petroleum Products Act, 1977. These regulations aim to implement the first phase of the Cabinet-approved Biofuels Regulatory Framework, 2020, which targets a 2% (two percent) biofuels penetration into the total transportation fuels supply to come from first-generation biofuels i.e., agricultural crops. We encourage stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the Regulated Biofuels Price.
