DNA Announcements

The Clean Development Mechanism Executive Board (CDM EB) has at its 73rd meeting on the 31st of May 2013, adopted the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) Grid Emission Factor as a standardized baseline for the SAPP. This implies that all the member countries listed in the report will from now onwards use only one value as the emission factor as outlined in the report. Issuance of Certified Emission Reductions

EnviroServ Chloorkop Landfill Gas Recovery Project (0925) has been issued with 326 017 for the monitoring period 01 January 2010 to 31 March 2012. Detailed information on this project activity is available here

N2O abatement project at nitric acid plant No. 11 at African explosives Ltd. (AEL), South Africa has been issued with 391 122 CERs for the monitoring period 24 May 2009 to 16 November 2010 and 74 590 CERs for the monitoring period 17 November 2010 to 28 February 2011. N2O abatement project at nitric acid plant No. 11 at African explosives Ltd. (AEL), South Africa has been issued with 69 230 CERs for the monitoring period 01 March 2011 to 06 August 2011. Detailed information on this project activity is available here

Sasol Nitrous Oxide Abatement Project has been issued with 489, 639 CERs by the UNFCCC for the monitoring period 10 August 2008 to 03 August 2009. Detailed information on this project is available here.

Project for the catalytic reduction of N2O emissions with a secondary catalyst inside the ammonia reactor of the No. 9 nitric acid plant at African Explosives Ltd (“AEL”), South Africa" (1171) has been issued with 67,604 CERs for the monitoring period 11 February 2008 to 04 August 2009. The Department of Energy as the Designated National Authority (DNA) for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), in collaboration with the UNFCCC secretariat, the East African Development Bank through the CDM Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) in Kampala and the “Future of the Carbon Market” Foundation of the German government hosted a training workshop on CDM Post-Registration Changes (PRCs) and Programme of Activities (PoAs), on the 12th – 14th February 2014 at Manhattan Hotel, Pretoria in Gauteng Province of South Africa.

In addressing some of the identified challenges to CDM Development in South Africa and Southern African Development Community, the training workshop provided capacity building support to the project developers and also to the DNA office to enhance its ability to promote CDM projects and PoAs.
