Duties:The Council for Mineral Technology was established in terms of the Mineral Technology Act, 1989 (Act No. 30 of 1989) (Mintek Act) Mintek serves the national interest through research, development and technology transfer, to promote mineral technology and to foster the establishment and expansion of industries in the field of minerals and products derived therefrom. Nominations are invited from candidates to serve as members of the Board of Mintek with effect from 1 June 2026. In terms of section 6(5) of the Mintek Act members of the Board are appointed by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy. In terms of section 6(5) of the Mintek Act, members of the Board including the Chairperson, shall be persons who have achieved a distinction in science, engineering, technology, mining industry or who have special knowledge or experience in relation to one or other aspect of Mintek’s functions. The Mintek Act provides that a member of the Board holds office for a period not exceeding three years but shall be eligible for reappointment. Candidates must strictly be South African citizens or holders of permits as permanent residents in the Republic who are not disqualified to serve as directors of companies. Interested candidates possessing the following skills are encouraged to submit their applications: • A relevant postgraduate degree or equivalent qualification. • At least 10 - 15 years’ experience in a senior leadership / director position preferably in the minerals and mining sector, Science, Engineering and Technology field or related fields; • Experience in Research, Development & Innovation management and leadership; • Dynamic, highly competent, possess distinctive and practical leadership qualities and skills; and • Demonstrated track record as a Non-Executive Director in science related large and complex organisations.
