MINISTER MANTASHE TO DELIVER THE SECOND ANNUAL LECTURE TO HONOUR TRADE UNION ICON ELIJAH BARAYI AT UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG

The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Gwede Mantashe will on Thursday, 29 May 2025 deliver the Second Annual lecture to honour trade union icon Elijah Barayi Memorial Lecture, at the University of Johannesburg’s Auckland Park campus, in Johannesburg.

 

The lecture, held in collaboration with the Department of Employment and Labour (DEL), honours the legacy of Elijah Barayi, a key figure in South Africa’s labour movement and reaffirms UJ’s commitment to South Africa’s labour heritage.

 

Minister Mantashe, a former trade union leader, will reflect on Barayi’s enduring impact, alongside the Minister of Employment and Labour, Nomakhosazana Meth, Gauteng premier, Panyaza Lesufi and the Mayor of Johannesburg, Dada Morero.
