MEDIA ADVISORY: MINISTER KGOSIENTSHO RAMOKGOPA TO VISIT NUCLEAR MEDICINE RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE (NuMeRI)

The Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, will tomorrow, 02 July 2025, visit the Nuclear Medicine Research Infrastructure (NuMeRI).
This visit aims to highlight the critical role that NuMeRI plays in advancing nuclear technology applications in healthcare, particularly in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

NuMeRI, hosted by Steve Biko Academic Hospital and the University of Pretoria in collaboration with NECSA and iThemba Labs, has been designated as a flagship centre by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under the “Rays of Hope cancer initiative. This recognition underscores South Africa's commitment to utilizing nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

Tomorrow’s visit will take place from 08:30 to 10:30. During the visit, Minister Ramokgopa will engage with key stakeholders to gain insights into the facility's operations and its contributions to the region's healthcare landscape.
