The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Hon. Gwede Mantashe, will lead a South African delegation to Gaborone, Botswana, on 28 August 2025 to engage with his counterpart, Hon Bogolo Kemewendo. Minister of Minerals and Energy of the Government of Botswana regarding the African Diamond Producers Association (ADPA).
This high-level mission follows up on resolutions adopted during the ADPA Multilateral Ministerial Meeting held on the sidelines of the 2025 Mining Indaba in Cape Town on 05 February 2025, which South Africa hosted. One of the key outcomes of that meeting was the strategic decision to intensify engagement with Botswana, with the objective of encouraging the country to consider joining ADPA.
• Reinforce diplomatic and technical engagements with Botswana on the benefits of ADPA membership; • Share South Africa’s perspective on the importance of a united African front in the diamond production and beneficiation; • Discuss regional collaboration on value addition initiatives, including the critical need for infrastructure development in the diamond sector;
