An intervention by the Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy, Samantha Graham-Maré, has brought relief to a resident, Ms Claudine Louw of Aberdeen in the Eastern Cape, who has been without electricity for more than a year.

During a community engagement in Aberdeen on 11 March 2026, the Deputy Minister was alerted to Ms Louw’s urgent situation. Acting swiftly, she engaged Eskom and, together with Eastern Cape Customer Relations Manager Mr Nathi Sigwanda, visited Ms Louw’s home on Saturday, 14 March 2026, to assess the matter first-hand.

Deputy Minister Graham-Maré stated: “I am beyond thrilled for Ms Louw. I am happy we could assist her and reset her electricity meter after such a long period without power. This is part of our commitment to ensure our residents can live in dignity.”

Beaming with a smile, Ms Louw could not contain her joy, saying: “I am eternally grateful to finally have electricity. I am thankful to the Deputy Minister, Eskom and everyone who helped me. I no longer have to go to my mother’s house to boil water or cook, as I can now do that in the comfort of my own home. I am especially looking forward to baking muffins in my oven.”

“I must express my gratitude to Nathi from Eskom, who has been consistent in seeking to resolve this matter. I am also pleased that he and his team are attending to all other concerns raised during the various community engagements. It is critical that our residents live in improved conditions,” concluded the Deputy Minister.
