PDD Title Project Description
Joburg Landfill Gas to Energy Project The objective of the proposed project is development of landfill gas extraction and utilization systems at five landfill sites (Linbro Park, Marie Louise, Robinson Deep, Goudkoppies and Ennerdale Landfill sites) within the Joburg municipality. It entails the installation of a gas extraction wells and a gas collection system to collect and extract landfill gas from the five landfill sites. The gas will be flared and then be used to generate electricity that will be supplied to local electricity distribution system.

The proposed project activity will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 530 083 (tCO2e) per annum, over a crediting period of 21 years.

Fuel Switch at Corobrik’s Driefontein Brick Factory in South Africa. Document 1

Fuel Switch at Corobrik’s Driefontein Brick Factory in South Africa. Document 2

The project involves the conversion from coal to natural gas in the clay brick-firing tunnel kiln at Driefontein Brick Factory.

The project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions as natural gas is less Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission intensive than coal. It will also results in a minor improvement in energy efficiency.

Springbok Grid Connected 55.5 MW Wind Farm, South Africa

Springbok Grid Connected 55,5 MW Wind Farm Project

The proposed project envisages the construction and operation of a wind farm with installed capacity of up to 55.5 MW. The wind farm will be comprised of up to 37 wind turbine generators and the associated infrastructure. Produced electricity will be supplied to the Eskom electricity network.

The wind turbines capture the kinetic energy of the wind to drive a generator located within the wind turbine where this energy is subsequently converted into electricity. The proposed project activity will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 128 733 (tCO2e) per annum, over a crediting period of 10 years.
