The Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa will tomorrow, 11 November 2024, engage with the City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Cllr Dada Morero and Executives from City Power as part of his series of engagements with Municipalities to address the critical issue of outstanding Municipal debt owed to Eskom and implications to electricity supply. This meeting takes place on the backdrop of disputes regarding the notice of intention to interrupt power supply to the City of Johannesburg published by Eskom on 07 November 2024 over outstanding debt owed to Eskom. Total municipal debt owed to Eskom is to the substantial tune of R90 billion, creating a significant impact on Eskom’s financial sustainability. The Minister has been engaging in a series of discussions to address the issue. Tomorrow’s meeting aims to address pressing debt and electricity supply matters between Eskom and The City. Following the meeting, members of the media will be briefed on the discussions and outcomes to keep the public informed and updated.
