Learners across the country will report for the start of the new school year on 15 January 2025, some of which will attend school for the first time, while others will return to further their education. Since 1994, government has prioritised education as a means to transform the lives of young South Africans for the better.
The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Mr. Gwede Mantashe, MP, will this year embark on a Back-to-School programme at the Lengola High School and Cooper Primary School in Dannhauser, KwaZulu-Natal. The campaign aims to assess the school's readiness for teaching and learning and to encourage learners to prioritise education in order to transform their lives for the better.
The campaign also seeks to inspire learners to stay in school irrespective of their socio-economic circumstances and provide the required material resources that will enable them to receive the best possible education.
The Minister will be joined by the Deputy Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Ms Phumzile Mgcina, and representatives of various state owned entities and mining houses that have committed to contribute school uniform and study materials for the learners.
